STOKES is On-Line

STOKES HPC at UCF

STOKES, an IBM High Performance Computing cluster, is located at the University of Central Florida in Research Park. Researchers at the university are able to utilize this cluster and it is hoped that this opportunity will extend beyond the realm of UCF. The project is headed by Dr. Randall Shumaker and Dr. Brian Goldiez, with Sergio Tafur as the systems administrator.

STOKES beta website!!

The link below is the new STOKES website, which will replace this website within the next few months as more changes are made. For the most up to date information, use the Beta website, although essential updates will be posted here as well. You must be logged into the UCF VPN or be connected to the regular UCF network to view the Beta website.

Sir George Gabriel Stokes

Sir George Gabriel Stokes(1819-1903) was a mathematician and physicist at Cambridge who made important contributions to fluid dynamics, optics, and mathematical physics. He is well known for involvement and development of the Navier-Stokes equations as well as Stokes Theorem. In 1845 Stokes had published an important work on the aberration of light, the first of a number of important works on this topic. Perhaps the most important event in the recognition of Stokes as a leading mathematician was his Report on recent researches in hydrodynamics presented to the British Association for the Advancement of Science in 1846. He also used his work on the motion of pendulums in fluids to consider the variation of gravity at different points on the earth, publishing a work on geodesy of major importance On the variation of gravity at the surface of the earth in 1849.
