Christopher Stapleton leads in creative research of
experiential media (simulation as a form of expressive medium). He is on the faculty for the UCF School for
Film & Digital Media where
he instructs on the future of interactive entertainment, media
convergence, production pre-visualization and interactive immersive
storytelling. He is the Founding Director of the Media Convergence
Laboratory (a joint venture between the Institute for Simulation and
Training, CREAT Digital Media Program and Computer Science Department)
whose sponsors and partners include Canon Inc., US Army, US Navy, National
Center For Simulation, Nickelodeon Studios, Brand Experience Laboratory,
MGM, Universal Studios and the Orlando Science Museum.
He is a designer and producer of experience-based media by training. He
has over twenty five years experience as a creative principal in
developing experiences and environments for entertainment, marketing and
education for companies such as Universal Studios, Nickelodeon, Disney and
Sanrio. His positions include Producer, Entertainment Consultant, Creative
Director, Artistic Director, Design Director, Art Director, Chairperson,
Concept Designer, as well as Production and Scenic Designer. Projects were
developed for film, television, theater, theme parks, museums, research
and education, retail merchandising, corporate marketing and
communications. Experiences include projects worldwide including New York,
Los Angeles, Tokyo, Milan, Cincinnati, Knoxville and Orlando. Education
consists of a Master of Fine Arts in Film, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in
Theater from New York University, Manhattan and London.
In late 2005 he launched a start-up company, Simiosys (UCF Business
Incubator Client), to transfer the latest developments of Mixed Reality
into the future of entertainment, informal education and training.
