IST Library Collection
A February 27, 2002,
ribbon-cutting ceremony formally dedicated IST's renovated reading
room and growing reference collection devoted to modeling and simulation
research.
Made possible
through the financial support and perseverance of G. Vince Amico,
a well known figure in the simulation industry, the new reading
room contains some 2,000 items, adding up to a significant body
of simulation science research and history.
The reading
room is open to the public and frequently used by students of simulation
and members of local high tech industry. Through the collections
catalog on ISTs website have come document requests from across
the street to around the globe.
The inventory
supports the university's new graduate level masters and Ph.D. programs
in modeling and simulation.
Included among
the volumes in the collection are items donated from Amicos
personal library and from other long-time veterans of the simulation
industry.
Vince Amicos
simulation career began in 1948 when he joined the flight trainers
branch of the Special Devices Center as a project engineer. He retired
from the Orlando, Florida-based Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division in 1981.
He currently serves on the board of directors of the National Center
for Simulation and as industrial affiliates coordinator for the
School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UCF.
In a formal
ceremony Orlando's mayor Glenda Hood honored Amicos career-long
accomplishments by designating December 12, 2001, as "Vince Amico Day."
