Retired U.S. Navy Captain Wes Naylor was named interim director of the Institute for Simulation and Training on Jan. 27, 2020.
Naylor is no stranger to the world of simulation and training or UCF. He is a former commanding officer of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division and Naval Support Activity Orlando, long-time partners with IST and its researchers. He has also served as adjunct faculty at UCF in the College of Business.
Naylor has called Central Florida home for more than seven years after relocating from Washington D.C. He earned a doctorate in business administration from Rollins College where he has also served in several executive leadership roles. He also sits on several civic boards, including the Orlando Economic Partnership, Orlando Science Center and the National Defense Industrial Association. He is also an entrepreneur.
Naylor’s role is to help grow IST’s success, build on the institute’s national reputation in simulation, training and augmented reality research, support faculty and staff so they can continue to conduct world class research, support students pursuing advanced degrees and word with local, regional and national partners.He will serve as interim director while a national search is underway for a permanent director.
A distinguished career in the Navy and as a business owner have taught him that to achieve success, you need a team. Together Naylor and the IST community will envision and build the next phase of IST’s history.
